Alpha WSER50 50/13 Universal 240V Radio Motor
The Alpha WSER50 50/13 Universal is a powerful 240V wired radio motor designed particularly for external straight-drop awning systems, as well as compatible roller blinds and roller shutters.
Delivering 50Nm of rated torque at 13 rpm, this model provides the highest torque of the WSER50 Universal motors we’ve added so far.
Alpha describes the WSER50 Universal range as its most popular external straight-drop motor series in Australia.
The motor combines substantial torque with an electronic limit switch, built-in radio receiver, wireless limit setting, external antenna and torque-stop functionality in a 45mm diameter tubular motor.
50Nm Rated Torque
The defining specification of the Alpha WSER50 50/13 Universal is its substantial 50Nm rated torque.
It operates at 13 rpm, prioritising greater torque over the faster operating speeds of the lower-torque WSER50 models.
Within the models we’ve now added:
WSER50 10/27 → 10Nm / 27 rpm
WSER50 30/17 → 30Nm / 17 rpm
WSER50 50/13 → 50Nm / 13 rpm
This gives customers and installers several WSER50 options depending on the torque and speed requirements of the application.
Correct motor selection should always consider the complete system, including dimensions, weight, tube configuration and application.
Designed for External Straight-Drop Systems
Alpha specifically positions the WSER50 Universal series for external straight-drop systems.
These systems can require specialised motor functionality because of their side channels, upper stopping arrangements and the need to correctly tension the fabric at the lower position.
The Alpha WSER50 50/13 Universal combines its high torque with Alpha’s torque-stop functionality to accommodate these requirements.
Alpha also lists roller blinds and roller shutters among the key applications for the motor.
Torque-Stop Functionality
One of the most important features of the WSER50 Universal range is its torque-stop function.
In compatible side-channel systems, torque stop can be used to stop the motor against physical stoppers at the upper position.
At the lower position, the same functionality can be used to help tension the awning fabric.
Importantly, the torque-stop system can work alongside the motor’s conventional electronic limit.
A normal top limit can therefore be programmed while the torque-stop functionality is used in conjunction with it.
Built-In Radio Receiver
The Alpha WSER50 50/13 Universal incorporates its radio receiver directly into the motor.
This enables remote-control operation using compatible Alpha radio controls without requiring a separate external radio receiver for normal operation.
An external antenna forms part of the motor’s integrated radio-control system.
The motor itself receives permanent 240V power while providing the convenience of wireless user control.
Electronic Limit Switch
The Alpha WSER50 50/13 uses an electronic limit switch rather than conventional mechanical limit adjustment.
The upper and lower stopping positions can therefore be electronically programmed into the motor.
Once configured, these provide consistent stopping positions during normal operation.
Wireless Limit Setting
Alpha specifies wireless limit setting for the WSER50 50/13 Universal.
This allows its electronic limits to be configured wirelessly using compatible Alpha control equipment.
For a tubular motor installed inside an awning, blind or shutter system, wireless limit programming provides convenient setup without requiring direct physical adjustment of conventional mechanical limit screws.
Alpha Sun/Wind Sensor Compatibility
The Alpha WSER50 Universal series is specifically suitable for use with:
Alpha RS001 Sun/Wind Sensor
Alpha RS002 Sun/Wind Sensor
These are confirmed compatible accessories and should be internally linked to their Frontline Supply product pages.
For an external awning, weather monitoring can provide an important additional level of automated protection when conditions change while the awning is extended.
Sensor Heartbeat Protection
The WSER50 Universal range also provides a protective response if communication with a compatible Alpha Sun/Wind Sensor is lost.
Alpha states that the motor detects a pulse issued by the sensor approximately every 20 minutes.
If the awning is down and the motor does not receive the expected signal for approximately 30 minutes, it automatically raises the awning.
The system assumes that the sensor or communication may have failed and retracts the awning as a protective measure.
This provides protection not only when wind is detected but also if the motor can no longer confirm that the weather sensor is operating correctly.
45mm Tubular Motor
The Alpha WSER50 50/13 Universal uses a 45mm diameter tubular motor body.
The motor has an overall length of 600mm and a net weight of approximately 2.65kg.
It carries an IP44 protection rating and has an unlimited electronic turn specification.
Alpha supplies the motor with the A2404 C&D and A3415 motor bracket.
240V Wired Radio Operation
The Alpha WSER50 50/13 Universal is a wired 240V motor.
This differentiates it from the rechargeable Alpha WSERD range.
The WSER50 receives mains power while its integrated receiver provides wireless remote-control functionality.
This provides permanently powered motorisation without relying on a rechargeable motor battery.

FAQs
What is the Alpha WSER50 50/13 Universal designed for?
It is particularly suited to external straight-drop awnings. Alpha also lists roller blinds and roller shutters as key applications.
How powerful is the Alpha WSER50 50/13 Universal?
It provides 50Nm of rated torque and operates at 13 rpm.
What does the torque-stop function do?
Torque stop allows the motor to respond to resistance. In compatible straight-drop systems it can be used against upper stoppers and can also help tension the awning fabric at the lower position.
Does the Alpha WSER50 50/13 have a built-in receiver?
Yes. It incorporates a built-in radio receiver and external antenna for operation with compatible Alpha radio controls.
Does the motor use electronic limits?
Yes. It uses an electronic limit switch and supports wireless limit setting.
Which Sun/Wind Sensors are compatible?
Alpha specifically identifies the RS001 and RS002 Sun/Wind Sensors as suitable for the WSER50 Universal range.
What happens if the Sun/Wind Sensor stops communicating?
Alpha states that the motor expects a sensor pulse approximately every 20 minutes. If the awning is down and no signal is received for around 30 minutes, the motor automatically raises the awning as a protective measure.
